Overview Of The Global Business Mobility Sponsor Licence
The Global Business Mobility (GBM) routes were introduced to enable overseas businesses to establish a presence in the UK or transfer staff here for specific temporary assignments.
There are five sub-routes within the GBM category, each serving a different purpose and requiring the individual to be sponsored.
None of the GBM routes lead directly to Settlement. Workers who wish to settle in the UK may need to consider alternative routes such as the Skilled Worker or Global Talent routes.
The Five Global Business Mobility Sub-Routes
Senior or Specialist Worker
This route replaces the former Intra-Company Transfer category. It is for senior managers and specialist employees undertaking temporary assignments in the UK.
UK Expansion Worker
This route replaces the Representative of an Overseas Business category. It is for senior managers or specialist employees coming to the UK to establish and expand an overseas business’s first UK presence.
Secondment Worker
This route is for overseas workers temporarily seconded to the UK as part of a high-value contract or investment between their overseas employer and a UK organisation.
Service Supplier
This route is for contractual service suppliers or self-employed independent professionals providing services in the UK under international trade commitments.
Graduate Trainee
This route is for overseas workers undertaking a UK placement as part of a structured graduate training programme leading to a senior management or specialist role.
